Abstract Starting with a brief description of the underlying eco-institutional intricacies of the European Union, in the first part of this article, we will examine their early theoretical premises and the more recent developments that have dictated their form. In the second part, we will attempt to give an overview of the economic constitution of the Union, exposing its limits before concluding with some normative reflections about its mechanisms of coordination.
